Focus Area

Climate and Disaster Response

We combine rapid humanitarian assistance with recovery, preparedness and community resilience so people can survive emergencies and rebuild with greater security.
Focus Area Overview

From Emergency Response to Community Resilience

Floods, cyclones, fires, extreme weather and other emergencies can threaten lives, displace families and destroy homes and livelihoods, with marginalized communities often facing the greatest risks.

Songjog Foundation mobilizes volunteers and resources to provide essential assistance, including food, medicine, clothing, shelter and recovery support. We also work to strengthen preparedness, rehabilitation and local response capacity.

Our goal is to help communities move from immediate crisis toward safer recovery and greater resilience to future emergencies.

Key Challenges

Barriers to Progress

  • Recurring climate hazards: Floods, cyclones, river erosion, extreme weather and salinity repeatedly affect lives, homes and livelihoods.
  • Limited preparedness: At-risk communities may lack accessible warnings, evacuation plans, emergency supplies and safe shelter.
  • Urgent humanitarian needs: During an emergency, families may immediately need food, safe water, medicine, clothing and temporary shelter.
  • Loss of homes and livelihoods: Damage to housing, crops, livestock, businesses and infrastructure can prolong hardship.
  • Unequal exposure: Older adults, women, children, people with disabilities and people with health conditions may require adapted assistance.
  • Gaps between relief and recovery: Families need coordinated pathways toward rehabilitation, housing, livelihood recovery and future preparedness.
Our Approach

The Songjog Response

  • Rapid needs assessment: Our teams and local volunteers identify urgent needs, affected locations and groups requiring specialized assistance.
  • Emergency assistance: We mobilize food, safe water, medicine, clothing, shelter materials and other essential supplies.
  • Volunteer-led response: Songjog’s volunteer network supports outreach, distribution, referrals, communication and field coordination.
  • Inclusive support: We seek to accommodate the needs of children, older adults, women, people with disabilities and people requiring medical care.
  • Recovery assistance: Where resources permit, we support shelter rehabilitation, housing and livelihood recovery.
  • Preparedness: Volunteer training, communication networks and local planning help strengthen future emergency response.
  • Community accountability: We seek to provide assistance according to identified needs and maintain clear distribution records.
